Modeling


The Modeling Modules provide opportunities for preservice teachers to develop knowledge for teaching modeling. The first module introduces preservice teachers to several frameworks used to illustrate the mathematical modeling process, gain experience creating and analyzing common types of mathematical models, and develop an understanding of modeling goals in the secondary mathematics curriculum. This is achieved by having the preservice teachers examine the process including selecting variables and parameters, writing and interpreting relations relevant to the context with appropriate units, analyzing the models, presenting, critiquing, and creating variations.
